If you love essential oils and use them all the time, you probably want to bring them with you while you travel. I know I do!
Especially since there are so many essential oils that are perfect for traveling – they help you get rid of jetlag, they help you get refreshed, relaxed, and so on. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my oils while traveling.
But if you’ve never traveled with essential oils before, especially by plane, you might be worried about how to pack them, what rules does the airport has regarding liquids, and so on.
But, don’t be! That’s what I’m here for – to help you travel with your oils stress-free.
Here’s how to travel with essential oils with ease.
Guidelines For Flying With Essential Oils
If you want to bring your oils in your carry-on, don’t worry, you can. There are just some rules and criteria you need to follow.
Per T.S.A. rules, each passenger can bring one clear zip-locked quart-sized bag to carry liquids. The liquid containers within the bag need to be less than 3.4oz (100mL) each.
Lucky for you, all of your favorite 15mL doTerra oils are less than that.
So, you can pack as many bottles as you can fit in one quart-sized bag, which should definitely be enough for your trip.
Seal Everything Properly
The last thing you want is for your oils to spill inside your bag.
So, when you’re packing them, make sure you close the lids very well and double-check if they’re closed.
Also, make sure you close your bag so they don’t fall out of it.
I always triple-check everything so my oils don’t spill!
Choose The Right Bag
We’ve established you just need a clear quart-sized bag, so, technically, a zip-locked kitchen bag could do. However, those are usually very thin, and can tear easily.
That’s why I’d recommend getting a plastic bag with a zipper. You can pick one up at The Container Store. Or, if you have a makeup bag that fits the criteria, that can do as well!
I have a special essential oils travel bag for my checked luggage, so I always know what to pack my oils in. Yes, I carry on oils AND I check oils.
Check out my latest reel on IG to see how many I take. Haha I like to check them because I take a lot of liquids when I travel such as hairspray and skincare. Hey, it takes a few products to keep this Mohawk standing. I travel a lot, so I always figure in baggage claim time to my schedule. It’s a non-negotiable to me, and anyone I travel with knows I always check a bag!
Tips For Travelling By Car
If you’re traveling by car, you don’t have many regulations you need to follow. So, that option is even more stress-free. Phew.
If you want to use your oils while traveling by car (you already know I do), you might want to back a mini bag and keep it with you. You can put it in the glove compartment.
I love having them with me, especially for long road trips. When I need to get refreshed a bit, maybe loosen up some muscle tension, or deal with car sickness, I just grab the mini bag I packed, and I’m good!
I always carry an On Guard hand sanitizer in the car, and my mini diffuser. Traffic makes me want to have road rage, so I blast some balance and lavender when I feel stressed. Ask me about the mini for your car…you will love it!!
